Willard (Bill) Betts joined the Fire Service in April of 1965, as a Junior Member of the Frederica Volunteer Fire Company in Frederica, Delaware. He has continued to be an Active Member, and was honored with Life Membership in 1985. On the Line Officer side of the Company, he has held the Office of Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, and is currently serving as the Safety Officer under appointment by the Fire Chief. On the Administrative side of the Company, he has held the Office of President, Director, and is currently serving as the Recording Secretary.
Bill has also been active in the Kent County Volunteer Fire Association serving as President and Secretary of the Kent County Firefighter’s Association. Bill has also served as the President of the Kent County Volunteer Fire Chief’s Association, and is currently the Assistant Secretary/Treasurer.
Bill is active in the Delaware Firefighter’s Association and has held the position of Kent County Director (1982), and has been Chairman of the Apparatus Standards Committee since 1989. Bill was appointed to the Delaware State Fire Prevention Commission in the fall of 1998 by the Governor, and served two six year terms until 2010.
Bill has been a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs in the Eastern Division since 2004, and served as the Delaware Director before becoming 2nd Vice President at the Eastern Conference last May, 2013.
