In an exciting announcement during the U.S. Fire Administrator’s keynote at the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Volunteer and Combination Officer Symposium in Clearwater Beach, FL, Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell introduced Chief Donna Black as the next Deputy U.S. Fire Administrator. Chief Black will officially assume the role on December 15, 2024.
Chief Black brings an impressive legacy of over 27 years of service in the fire industry. Her career spans both paid and volunteer firefighting roles, highlighting her commitment to the field and her ability to lead in diverse environments. In 2006, she became the Fire Chief for the Town of Duck, North Carolina, where she has been a transformative leader.
A former President of the IAFC, Chief Black is well known for her advocacy of #FireServiceOneVoice, a collaborative effort supporting the National Fire Strategy. Her leadership and dedication to advancing fire safety, firefighter health, and interagency cooperation have earned her national recognition.
As Deputy U.S. Fire Administrator, Chief Black will support the U.S. Fire Administration’s mission to strengthen the nation’s ability to prevent, respond to, and recover from fire-related incidents. Her experience and vision will be pivotal in shaping future fire safety policies and strategies.
